Creation Story and Play-Doh

We've been talking with the kids about the creation story, and seeing a unique relationship with our own stories in the process. When the earth was created it was 'formless and empty', kind of like a lump of clay or Play-doh. It might have looked odd; it was an unfinished work; it had such great potential.

When we first begin to follow Jesus, we are like that lump of clay or Play-doh. We are an unfinished work (you thought I was going to say we look odd), but we have such great potential. No matter your age, God is still shaping you into His image. Just imagine all that He accomplished in creating the world and all that is in it, certainly He can accomplish His work in our lives as well.

Philippians 1:4-6  4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. {The Holy Bible : New International Version. 1996, c1984 (electronic ed.). A Fresh Start

Everyone has those times when they mess up and need to start over: sometimes that happens when doing a project around the house (especially if it involves a hammer and nails); or it might be when writing an email or a letter (does anyone do that anymore?) and you type something and don't like how you said it; or when you are doing something before reading directions (parents might do this with new furniture, kids might do this with a new video game).

Peter had denied knowing Jesus, THREE times. Jesus forgave him and gave him a new start. Jesus told Peter to feed His sheep and His lambs. Peter go a fresh start that day, and a clear purpose. No, he wasn't going from fisherman to shepherd, but he was given the task of caring for the flock of God, meaning God's people. I like that the lambs are mentioned, because it is a reminder that children are important to Jesus.

BTW: I'm making a fresh start with this blog. Please pass on the link to others you know who are parents or who care about helping Kids Rock for God.

Kids were meant to rock for God!

Thanks for checking out my blog. Where do I start ............

Just a few weeks from Easter and I'm already getting ready. I am amazed when I think of how Jesus went into Jerusalem to shouts of praise just so few days before He was to be sacrificed for us. Jesus quotes one of my favorite verses of scripture (Mt 21:16; Ps 8:2) saying ‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’ (NIV). He clearly intends for children to praise Him. I like the way it reads in NLT 'You have taught children and infants to give you praise.' This way it shows that HE is active in teaching the children, helping kids to see God's wonder and His work so that kids praise Him. Haven't you ever seen a child in awe over the greatness of the stars in the sky, or amazed when looking at the animals in the zoo? We should help our kids see God with that kind of amazement and awesome wonder!
